The Encounter (2023) is a gestural study exploring what form, shape, or visual language the hand assumes when it comes into contact with the Divine. Referencing Renaissance paintings, sculptures, and drawings, the hands appear mid-interaction—evoking a visual dialogue around reappearance, reawakening, and rebirth. As the piece unfolded, I became aware that two mudras—ritual hand gestures used in Hindu and Buddhist traditions and classical Indian dance—had emerged organically within the composition. Without conscious intent, the gesture of awareness appears at the center, while gestures of protection surface in the lower left and upper right corners. These symbolic echoes deepen the work’s meditation on spiritual presence and the body’s intuitive knowledge.
