Now, more than ever, media feed us the idea that happiness and success can be obtained through materialism–particularly in beauty and fashion advertisements: injections that tighten your skin, pills that allow you to lose weight, creams that take 10 years off your face, and implants that accentuate that “natural” beauty you have.

People are conditioned into believing that they will be happier, more confident, and have higher self-esteem with their finished appearance–becoming less human and more of a manufactured object.

Ultimately, we find ourselves suffocated in a vicious cycle of dissatisfaction and desire for an ideal of beauty that does not exist.
